This is me aged 5, at my birthday party. I can still remember the thrill of seeing that birthday cake in the shape of a cottage complete with garden and sugarpaste flowers. You see, I was blessed to have the sort of mother who put the magic into everything; she turned the mundane into special, and always found new ways to surprise me. Luckily that attitude has rubbed off on me, and helped to create The Vanilla Bakery.
It started with celebration cakes, where the thrill of turning reality into cake was realised. Then as time passed the desire to turn all food into something special, for it to look and taste so stupendous that the food simply begged to be eaten, has become all consuming.
I devour cookery books, I have piles stacked up around the house, and always a few saved for bedtime reading. The delight in sourcing new recipes and then seeing customers enjoy them is indescribable.
Each morsel that graces The Vanilla Bakery menu is there because it is seasonal, and delicious. From warm soups, and feel good pastries in the cold months, to jewel – like berries on summer inspired cupcakes. They are all chosen because they belong, they naturally work together and that is the simplicity to creating delicious food.
We are a little like that. We are a small family business, who love working together. We take the utmost care in what we do, and it means everything to us. We complement each other, and that synchronicity translates into our food.
